Reciprocal Reading

We did reciprocal reading on a PDF called what we ate.

The six roles are leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner and summariser. The PDF is about what soldiers ate during the war. They ate: bully beef, jam, canned fruit and vegetables, lack of vitamin c, hard biscuits and water.

The most helpful role was the clarifier role because they identified tricky and unknown words that we don't understand through out the text.

Next we read another PDF called what we lost. This text is talking about where soldiers fought and how many people served, were wounded, killed and injured.

They fought in Gallipoli, the Somme, Messines, Passchendaele and Bapaume.

The most helpful role in this text was the questioner role because they were asking questions about where the battle took place and how many were killed.

3 Similiar simple machines

Did you know that simple machines were used a long time ago to make work easier? These three machines are similiar by moving things using something round or a wheel. They are: wheel and axle, pulley and screw.

Hook

We watched a video about how to write a hook.

A hook is trying to get the readers attention with a suprising fact to hook them.

Did you know the largest chocolate bar weighed 5,792.50 kg's. Chocolate is made out of cocoa beans. You have to roast the cocoa beans and melting it in the chocolate liquor. Then blending it with milk and sugar.

Did you know thst fireworks were orignated around 2000 years ago. It consist of powder, a fuse and flash paper. When all three mixtures work together the firework will make a loud bang.

Did you know that butterflys can taste with their feet. A life cycle of a butterlfy has 4 steps. There are eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis and butterfly. The life cycle of a butterfly takes 28 to 32 days.

Next time I need to start writing a explanation instead of a information report.

Balancing

I did a hockey stick activity. First I had to balance on one leg and try keep the hockey stick from touching the ground. My partner had to roll the ball so I can hit the ball back and fourth.

I found this challenging because I always use the stick to balance.

I did a frisbee activity. First I had to pass the frisbee sideways and balance on one leg. My partner and I tried both legs to see which is stronger.

I found this activity easy because I mostly caught and it was hard because I was always making big movements.

I did a basketball activity. I had to bounce the ball to my partner. I could either do a dribble across my body with two hands or bounce with just one hand while balancing.

I found this hard because my right foot was always hoping around and wiggling.

I did a netball activity. Me and my partner had to pass the ball to each otheer back and fourth on one leg. We wanted to try passing the ball sideways to make it challenging.

I found this task easy because I could catch the ball with one hand.

I did a rugby activity. Me and my partner passed the ball sideways like a frisbee on one leg. My partner and I kept falling off our tipping point.

I found this task challenging because I kept dropping the ball.

Ktichen Items

We had to find 10 objects that belong in the kitchen.

First we we practised up and down phrases in Maori. Up means runga and down means raro. One of the phrases were for up: kei runga i te... . For down it was: kei raro i te... .

Next we had to create a poster and put on the pictures. Next we had to label the pictures in te reo Maori. For example: Chair means nohoanga in te reo.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt about kitchen words in te reo Maori

Calendars

Calendars show us the day, week or month.

There are 12 months in the year, they are: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

There are number patterrns on a calendar by looking for four connecting days for example 20, 60, and 100.

Knowing before and after number sequence and 7 timestables helps us reading a calendar.

The three similiar simple machines

These three simple machines are similiar due to what they do. They are the wedge, inclined plane, and the lever.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed basic facts boxes up to 10 addition. Basic facts boxes is an activity where you have to answer the questions quickly in a short amount of time.

For my basic facts boxes challenge I got 100/100 questions correct and my time was 3 minutes and 47 seconds.

Next time for my goal I will do a harder level which is up to 20 addition.

Comment Thread

Comment thread is making a conversation with another person. I did a comment thread with Xavier about my maths task which was about how time works.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed basic facts boxes multiplication. Basic facts boxes is an activity where you have to answer the questions quickly as possible.

The times tables that I did was: 9 times tables, 7 times tables, 5 times tables, 4 times tables, 10 times tables, 8 times tables, 3 times tables, 2 times tables and 6 times tables.

I got 100/100 questions correct and my time was 2 minutes and 25 seconds.

Next time my goal will be to do division.

SSR Selfie

I read 27 pages of the book called Minecraft guide to exploration written by Stephanie Milton.

The facts that I learnt about was: There are desert biomes, savanna biome, extreme hills, forest biome and roof forest biome.

Another fact is: Rabbits spawn in deserts, flower forest, taiga, and ice plains biomes and the hills variants of these biomes.

I enjoyed reading this book because I learnt lots of new facts about how to play minecraft.

Cause & Effect

Cause and effect can help writing sentence with a structure of an explanation.

The cause is why something happens and the effect is what happens. For example: The heat in the oven cooks the meat.

Causal language can be used when writing a cause and effect. They are: because, when, if then, in order to, therefore, this causes or this results in, as a result, consequently, and the reason for that.

For example: It rained for three hours THEREFORE the park was flooded.

Below is a mix and match activity to match the right cause and effect with the correct causal language.

Cause and Effect can simply explain a mechanism, and then more detail can be added.

Keyword

All texts has a range of words to share information with the reader.

A keyword is something that unlocks a meaning of a word or saying. An example of what a keyword is: riot. Riot means to take part in violent things.

Keywords can help summarise the text. For example Allies, Central Powers and Power struggle. These words can unlock information in the text.

Keywords can build your vocabulary when unlocking a new word. For example: latrine. Latrine is a toilet. Soilders used these in the army.

A keyword can unlock information in a faster amount of time.

LI- To use Keywords to retell a text

LI- To expand vocabulary using keywords

Manners

Manners are used to greet them in the right way.

Manners also include saying please, thank you, and excuse me. When greeting someone use need eye contact, and saying good morning with their name.

When asking for something say may I and please. For example: May I go have a drink please.

Manners are used to respect people and they will respect you back.

Problem Solving

In groups we solved analog questions.

First we shared ideas on what we think the answers are.

Next we shared our answers with the other groups.

Lastly we shared the prosses on how we solved.

This task was easy because I already knew about time.

Simple Machines

We searched around the school to find the six simple machines. They are: inclined plane, wedge, lever, screw, pulley, and wheel and axle.

The lever lifts up the chair from a lower level to a higher level.

A inclined plane helps people move from alower level to a higher level.

A wheel and axle helps a wheelie bin move around.

A screw helps things connect together.

A pulley helps the flag move up from a lower level.

A wedge helps a door keep open.

TIME

Digital and analog time help us know what time of day it is.

Digital time displays numbers for minutes and hours and uses am or pm to tell us what time of day it is.

Elapsed time is how much time has gone by. Skip counting in 5's helps caculate how much time has elapsed.

Using an analog clock makes it easier to caculate elapsed time.

Balancing

We did balancing activities in our environment. We took a range of photo's to show what balancing is.

The first photo was balancing on concrete.

The second photo was balancing playground equipment.

The third photo was balancing on playground equipment but with assistance of another person in our group.

The fourth photo was balancing on our group partners.

The last photo was balancing on our group partner but with the least amount of contact from the ground and from our partners.

The last balancing activity was hard because my group couldn't think of anything have the least amount of contact with the ground and our partners.

Positions

We learnt about prepositions.

The first preposition was tenei which means here. An example of here is: he pene tenei which means the pen is here.

The second preposition was tena which means there. An example of there is: he puka puka tena which means the book is there.

The last preposition was tera which means over there. An example of over there is: he turu tera which means the chair is over there.

Comment Thread

Comment thread is making a conversation with another person. I did a comment thread with Fotu about my explanation task which was about how a rugby match works.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed basic facts boxes up to 10 additon. Basic facts boxes in an activity where you have to answer the questions quickly.

I got 100/100 questions correct and my time was 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

My goal next time is to do up to 20 additon because I have already memorised my up to 5 and 10 additon.

SSR Selfie

I read 8 pages of Rugby league written by Jon Richards.

The facts that I learnt was: A rugby match consists of up to 15 players to play a proper game of rugby. Another fact is: Rugby players spend many hours training to improve their performance.

Another fact is: Rugby is a high - energy sport that involves physical contact. Players try to tackle each other win possession of the ball and use their skills and score the most points.

I enjoyed the book because I learnt lots of new facts.

Explanation

I learnt how to write an explanation about how something works.

First I chose a topic to write an explanation about. I chose about how Rugby is played. Afterwards I wrote the introduction about the topic. Rugby is a high - energy sport which involves physical contact.

Next I wrote down the mechanisms about the equipment that is needed for Rugby. A Rugby match needs a soft surfaced field, a round soft ball, two field post, and a maximum of 15 players.

Lastly I wrote down the summary. To play Rugby you will need a soft surface field, a soft round ball, two field post, and a maximum of 15 players.

Next time I will need to be more specific with explaining my mechanisms. The structure of an explanation is TIMES.

Balance

We practised how to balance. We used different techniques to help us balance.

Balance is trying to keep your body stable and still andtrying to not move. When balancing you will create big movements. When making big movements you will fall and your body will get a reaction when you fall and you will put your hands out to save you.

The first activity was called the bench activity. The activity was to balance on the beam and try not to fall of the beam.

The last activity was called football balance. 3 people had to take turns trying to balance on a football and the other two people help the person get on the football and try and stay stable on the ball until the person on the ball says they can let go.

I wasn't very good at balancing on the football because I was making big movements. Next time I need to practise balancing on the football.

Simple Machines

Simple machines are devices that help people make work faster and easier.

A pulley is used to lift objects from a lower level to a higher level which uses a rope and a wheel. A inclined plane is used to lift people or objects from a lower level to a higher level that is shaped like a skinny triangle. A lever is used to lift objects from a lower level to a higher level with a bar and a pivot.

A screw is used to hold objects together.

A wheel and axle is used to hold things easier to make something roll.

A wedge is used to cut wood in half that is shaped like a triangle.

These machines can still be used to help people work faster and easier.

Maori | Classroom Questions

I learnt classroom questions that will help me in the classroom.

The first question that I learnt was Kua marama. Kua marama means ( Do you understand )

The second question that I learnt was Kua mutu. Kua mutu means ( Are you finished )

Next time I can practise these questions so I can use these questions more often.

Analog Clock

Analog clocks are a peice of technology that helps tell time.

A clock has 3 mechanisms. The second hand moves around the clock the fastest.

The minute hand is the longest and moves when the second hand completes 1 rotation.

The hour hand moves the slowest and moves between the big numbers.

An analog clock requires you to look outside to know if it is morning or afternoon.
