Te reo Maori

Today's summer learning journey task we did a te reo Maori task.

We had to match the right Maori sentence. For example: what are you doing today. In Maori it means: kei te aha koe i tenei ra?

Optical illusions

Today task for summer leanring journey I had to make a optical illusion.

A optical illusion is a shape or thing that has a hidden shape inside of it.

First I had to pick a shape to make. I could make it with paper and pen, on my device or using a optical illusion DLO to get started.

I chose the triangle because it looks like the google drive logo and looks like a L on the side.

Presentation

We presented our presentation for our emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that keeps people safe from natural disasters.

First, we made our presentation and our script. And then started memorizing our lines for when we present.

Next, a group chose us to present. We started our presentation off by greeting them and then started giving information about our 3D model.

Lastly, when all the groups finished presenting our teachers gave all the groups feedback and chose one group to work with. Our feedback was that our greeting was good but as we went on the presentation was getting lackey.

The only good things I did was talking about our 3D model, and explaining our information. But the only things I needed to do was focus more, be confident to speak, and to remember my lines.

Kowhaiwhai pattern

Today's task for the summer learning journey was to make a kowhaiwhai pattern.

We had to rotate the kowwhaiwhai pattern and make any pattern we want to. I made a four waves flowing in the sea on a hot sunny day. The background represents the sun because it is summer.

For this task I did insect art.

I made a butterfly because it is the easiest insect to make. It has four wings two at the top and two at the bottom. And it has two antennas.

I came up with the name butterfly creek because it has the word butterfly and it is a place name. It is made out of four leafs, one stick and to flowers.

Fishing faulty teeth ( Kick start activity )

I did a task callled: Fishing faulty teeth.

The first thing I did was read an article about the story. Next I had to fill out a table explaining the four characters and who they are, what part of the story they play, and what was the outcome for them.

Next I watched another video explaining two men going fishing at the north sea and one of them loes there wife's teeth.

After I watched the video I had to create my on comic about the two men fishing. I had to write in the text bubbles and try and see what they are saying.

I had fun doing this activity because and I want do another one next time.

Commenting

I did a task called: commenting.

I had to comment on another persons blogpost and write a comment that is thoughtful, positive, helpful and kind. Next I had to ask a question about the work they did.

I commented on Aliyan K blog post about the nano girl experiment. I asked Aliyan K what material was the hardest to find.

Fractions of sets

A fraction of a set is one whole group divided equally into smaller groups.

A set means a group of things. A fraction is a whole thing divided into equal pieces.

Here is an example of what a fraction of a set is: I have twenty four beans and my two friends want some. I divided them into three groups. We each have eight beans in total.

A denominator is the number below which shows how many pieces there are. The numerator is the number at the top which shows the size of the fraction.

Faulty reasoning

For reading we were doing a Faulty reasoning task. We had to put five examples and five answers into each boxes. The five examples were:

The first faulty reasoning is: Illogical / simplified assumption means providing evidence that does not directly support the claim (Hint: There are probably other influences / factors.

The second faulty reasoning is: Circular reasoning means supporting a claim with the same claim.

The third faulty reasoning is: Over-generalization means making a global statement when there are likely exceptions. (Hint: everybody, nobody, always)

The fourth faulty reasoning is: Biased argument Making a claim that is influenced by your own personal feelings or experience.

The last faulty reasoning is: A contradiction. A contradiction is providing evidence that goes against the original argument.

The first activity wasto put the right was to put the right text into the right faulty reason.

The second activity was to guess which text should go into the right box for example: The school uniform is ugly becasue it is not attractive which is a circular reasoning.

The third activity was an individual task. We had to read three text letters and find 5 examples of the faulty reasoning. and put them into the box.

Poster for Advertisment

This week we made a poster about an porduct that we would sell. My group chose a bean bag to sell.

A bean bag is comfortable for sitting and relaxing. Kids love using bean bags and you can use it for reading a book or for lounging.

First we had to find keywords that will make people buy our item. Next we had to find photos of our product that were selling and we had to find people using our product.

Next we had to take a screenshot of the original art that we did. The art that I did was the statue of liberty. Afterwards we had to write the artist name and why we chose different colours.

I enjoyed the colouring book activity because it was very easy and very fun.

Fractions with sets

A fraction of a set is a whole fraction divided into smaller equal groups. A fraction is one whole thing divided into equal pieces

A denomenator is the bottom number which is showing the fraction size. The numerator is the top number which is showing how many pieces there are.

5/8 is eight pieces and five are shaded. So the numerator is five and the denomenator is eight. 1/4 is four quarters and one is shaded. So the numerator is four and the denomenator is five.

Emergency shelters

We designed an emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that keeps people safe from natural disasters.

First, we drew up our 3D net. A 3D net is something that can be folded into a 3D shape. Our shape was a cube. We needed to draw six 15 cm squares.

Next, we transferred the 3D net into card by measuring the length and width. Once we finished we started cutting it out and folding it into a cube.

Lastly, we started to build our model which was supposed to look like the card. We used cardboard to build the model because it’s strong enough to hold the shelter up.

Kiwisport

We practised passing drills and played touch.

First we did a passing drill. The first four people had to walk foward and pass the ball top each other. The next people on the other side they have to wait for the last person to pass the ball.

Afterwards we played three games of touch. We were split into three teams. My team was using two and three man settles while we were playing our games of touch.

I enjoyed playing touch and learning how to pass the ball.

Reading | QAR

This week for reading we did a QAR task on a book called: Change our school uniforms.

We had to put the right questions in the right box. Then we had to answer the questions and put them into the right box. There were 4 boxes to put the answers into. They were:

Right there means the answer can be found right there in the text.

Think and search means the answer is in the text but it may be found in many different places.

Author and you means the answer is not in the text and you have to use your own knowledge and have to come up with the answer.

On my own means the answer is also not in the text. You can also come up with the answer if you haven't read the text. You have to come up with your own knowledge and think to come up with the answer.

LI. To identify the main ideas in the text.
