Line Art | Maths

I created some art called line art. I created line art using straight lines to make one big curve shape

I decided to make one big star in the middle and a few stars around the big star. First I drew the vertical axis and numbered it from 1 - 10. Next I drew the horizontal axis and also numbered it from 1 - 10. My big star turned out great so then I moved onto doing the little stars around it.

Next I Created two little stars and one medium sized star. First I started off with the medium sized star. First I drew the axes and numbered them 1 - 10. I drew a 12 x 12 plus sign and started ruling on the lines to make the curve shape.

To finish up I finished off by making the three little stars and two more medium sized stars. I started off with the two little stars. I drew the grid for it and the axes vertically and horizontally and numbered it. Next I drew the last two stars. I did the same process except I drew it a little bigger.

I learned a lot about how to draw line art and that they make some illusions.

Mobile Puzzles | Maths

I created two different types of mobile puzzles.

Mobile puzzles are when you use different types of shapes to make a number or both sides are the same number.

For example: the number im adding up to is 32. The shapes im using are circles and triangles, so half of 32 is 16 which means that there are 4 circles and two triangles because 4 circles are worth 4 and triangles are worth 8. So both of them add up to make 32.

The second example is when both sides are worth the same amount and not adding up to anything. For example: both sides are worth 80, so the first side has two trapiziums and one heart. The heart is worth 20 and the trapizuim is worth 30.

The second side has two squares and one circle. The two squares are worth 10 each and the one circle is worth 60. So both sides add up to 80.

I need to make more harder ones for my teachers so there is more math that they need to do.

Line Art | Maths

I created a maths art called line art.

Line art is is a kind of art which a bunch of straight lines that makes up to one curve line. You will need a ruler and a pencil so you can make the lines look straight.

You need to connect the lines together which is called the intersection. The intersection means one thing meets another like the lines.

Next time I need to draw straighter axis with a ruler.

Here is an example of what my line art looks like:

Potting Plants

Follow these intructions to plant tomato seeds.

Watch out for a bacteria which is called Legionella longbeachae which will cause you to get sick and will possibly die when inhaling the bacteria.

Materials:
  • Mask
  • Potting mix
  • Seeds
  • A trowel or shovel
  • Planter box
  • Gloves
  • Water

Steps:

1. Get all the equipment which are the soil, your seeds and water.

2.  Dig your soil with the trowel into your planter box.

3. Poke a hole in your soil to put your seeds in.

4. Leave it in a sunny place to grow.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed basic facts boxes multiplication. Basic facts boxes is a can do activity where you have to complete and answer the equation quickly.

For my basic facts boxes result, I got 100 out of 100 correct and my time that I got was in 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

For my next basic facts boxes I am going to do basic facts boxes up to 100.

Improper Fractions

I completed a task where I identify improper fractions.

First, I wrote down the fraction in words. For example: seven quarters.

Next, I wrote down the fraction in numbers/numerals. For example: 7/4.

Afterwards, I used the pizza slices to show the fraction.

Last, I wrote down the explaination for the fraction. For example: There are four pieces each in total ( Quarters ) but one piece is gone. There are now seven pieces in total.

This task was kind of challenging cause I did not understand how to use the pizza slices.

Inporoper Fractions

I completed a task called inproper fractions. Inproper fractions are when the numerator is higher than the denominator. For example: 5/2.

First, I wrote down the fraction with numerals and words. For example: 1/2 which is in numeral and the words is one half.

Next, I represented the inproper fractions by using the pizza slices and the number lines.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I learnt what inproper fractions are.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed basic facts boxes multiplication. This task is where you have to answer all the questions quickly and to try and get a good time.

For my basic facts boxes I got all my answers correct and my time was 3 minutes and 25 seconds.

Next time for my goal is to do basic facts boxes subtraction up to 100.

Identifying Fractions

I created unit fractions and fractions by representing with pizza slices and squares.

First I did unit fractions. unit fractions are fractions that only have one in the numerator. I created the unit fractions with pizza slices and squares.

Next I did normal fractions. Normal fractions have any number on the numerator and any number on the denominator. I also showed normal fractions using pizza slices and squares.

This task was kind of challenging in the normal fractions section.

Fractions

I learned how to do fractions using shapes.

First I had to match the fractions and label it.

Next I had to shade and label the fractions together.

Last I had to create my own fractions witht the shapes and shade and label it.

The second task was hard because it was hard to figure out which fractions goes with the right shape.

Problem Solving

I completed a math problem using place value

I first highlighted the keywords that are in the problem which was: A candy store put 8 jars of lollies for a guessing competition. Each jar contained 76 lollies. How many lollies are there altogether?

The first step was to multiplied the ones. 8 x 6 = 48.

Next I multiplied the tens. 56 x 10 = 560

Afterwards I combined both answers altogether. 560 + 48 = 608.

I was struggling a little bit because the questions was to big to solve and to figure out the answer but in the end I found out what the answer was.

The first step was to multiplied the ones. 8 x 6 = 48.

Problem Solving

I completed a task called problem solving. We were split into four different groups and had to solve a problem using place value, rounding and compensating and written algorithm.

The problem we solved was: A farm received a total of 119 millimetres of rain over a 2 month period. If 48 millimetres of rain fell on the farm in June, how many millimetres of rain fell on the farm in month 2?

First we used place value to solve the problem. first we do the ones:

119 - 48 = ??

Ones - 9 - 8 = 1

Tens - 10 - 40 is not possible so we have to add the hundred to the ten.

110 - 40 = 70.

Last step is to combine the answers. 70 + 1 = 71, So 71 millimetres fell on the farm on the second month.

This strategy is very helpful cause you can solve problems more faster.

I completed basic facts boxes subtraction up to tekau. Basic Facts boxes is a can do activity where you have to answer all the questions correctly in a short amount of time.

For my basic facts boxes results I answered all of my questions correct and my time was rua minutes and rua tekau ma tahi seconds.

Next time for my basic facts challenge I will do subtraction up to rua tekau.

Problem Solving

I completed a task called problem solving. The strategy we used to solve the problem was: Place value. The equation is: Leilani has already practised for 24 minutes, 26 minutes and 17 minutes.

First we started of with the ones by adding them all together. 4 + 6 + 7 = 10. Next we add them together 10 + 7 = 17.

Next we add the tens together which is 20 + 20 + 10 = 50. Next we add them together like this: 50 + 17 = 67.

Now we already know that she has already practised for 67 minutes. We can use subtraction to take away 67 from 90 like this.

0 - 7 is not possible so we take 1 ten from 90 and put it in 0 to make 10. So now its 10 - 7 = 3.

The next part is subtracting the tens so: 80 - 60 = 20. Now we add those answers together and it makes 23.

I enjoyed this task because it was quite hard because we had to subtract and add big numbers.
