Measurement, angles, and coding

L.I To measure angles and code.

This week for maths we learned how to measure angles and code.

I played a maths game called go home. I measured the distance to the house that I am going to.

Then I used a pencil and ruler to measure the distance.

I mark the spot with my pencil.

I used a ruler to measure the distance travelled between house to house.

I used a protractor to measure my turns.

I enjoyed this task because it helped me with measure and coding.

Information Report

L.I To write an information report.

A structure of a information report is title, introduction, information, and conclusion.

This week for writing we had to choose a animal to write information about.

I chose to write information about a jaguar. They are the third largest cats ( behind the lions and tigers)

Then I had to write about it's diet, habitat, and some other interesting facts.

There are more information about jaguars in this doc.

Matariki breakfast

L.I To identify vocabulary and summarise the text.

I read a book called Matariki breakfast. I had to find verbs, adjectives, and nouns.

A verb is an action word. A adjective is a describing word. A noun is naming a place or thing.

Summarise is a skill and means using information from the book to tell a story in your own words.

Summarising was very helpful because it is easier to retell a story.

QAR

L.I To pose questions and locate answers in the text.

There are four types of QAR questions. the QAR questions are right there, think and search, Author and you, and on my on.

A right there question is where you can spot the answer in one place. You can also point to it.

A think and search question is where you can spot the answer in many places like connecting the dots.

A author and you is when the answer is not in the text. So you have to come up with a question that relates to the book.

A on my own question is similar to the author and you question but you have to come up with a question that somebody knows about and is related to the story.

QAR is a strategy to help you know where to find the answer and how to answer the questions.

Kiwi sport

L.I To learn what a set is.

A set is a skill in volley ball.
You have to put your right leg in front and put your left leg at the back because you will have more balance.

Then you put your hands in a diamond shape and put your hands above your head so the ball can go up high.

Then you have extend and bend your legs and launch the ball up high so that the ball can go over the net.

That is how you do a set. This is a set position.

Aboriginal art

For the past 2 weeks I learnt an art called Aboriginal art.

Aboriginal art was from Australians. They used symbols, dot, and lines to tell stories.

We have done this art for the past 2 weeks. We had to practise making symbols and watched a story about Aboriginal art.

The second day we did another practise and watched a video about how the kangaroo got its pouch.
The story was about the kangaroo losing its joey and getting attacked.

The next day we used black paper to tell the story. we use animals to trace around for our story. Then we drew our symbols that we learnt to draw also for our story.

My art is about two sharks in the water and its night. It is raining and there is fire above the sharks.

L.I To Learn and create Aboriginal art.

L.I To learn about light and sound vocabulary.

This week I learnt about light and sound vocabulary.

For inquiry I did an activity called find, draw, animate, act.

For find you have to find a picture of the word to help explain what it means.

For act you have to act the word to show its definition: vibration.

For draw you have to draw to explain what it means.

This activity was very helpful with my vocabulary.

Properties of light

L.I To learn the properties of light.

The properties of light is that light cannot go through opaque things because the opaque object was blocking the light from travelling in a straight light.

Another property is that light can be reflected. When you use a mirror the light will reflect and bounce in a different direction.

The next property is when you shine the light through glass it will bounce in every direction. This is called refraction.
When you use coloured cellophane which is transparent and it will make a colour when you shine the light onto the cellophane.

There are more properties of light on this DLO
