Literacy CH 1

I created a literacy chart about an odd object around my house. The object I chose to explain about was a grater. A grater is used to grate foods into pieces.

First, I went around my house to find the object to use which was a grater.

Lastly, I created a poster and wrote a short procedure about its functions.

  1. Wash the grater before use.

  1. Make sure it’s on a flat surface to keep it steady.

  1. Start grating.

  1. Choose the food you want to grate such as carrots, potatoes, cucumber, cheese, garlic, apples and pears.

  1. Then start cooking with your grated food.

This activity was fun because I got to talk about how something works.

Problem Solving

I completed a math problem using place value.

I first highlighted the keywords that are in the problem which was: A candy store put 8 jars of lollies for a guessing competition. Each jar contained 76 lollies. How many lollies are there altogether?

The first step was to multiplied the ones. 8 x 6 = 48.

Next I multiplied the tens. 8 x 70 = 560.

Afterwards I combined both answers altogether. 560 + 48 = 608.

I was struggling a little bit because the questions was to big to solve and to figure out the answer but in the end I found out what the answer was.

Comment Thread

I completed a task called comment thread. Comment thread is a task where you create a conversation with the person who commented on one of your blog post.

For my comment thread one of my teachers commented on my blog post about typing. In a comment thread you shoukd always have a: Greeting, a complement about their work and a nice question to ask about their work.

Here is an example of what you should do in a comment thread:

SSR Selfie

I read a book about earthquakes written by Laura Wade.

This book talks about how earthqaukes start, how strong they are and what to do in a earthqauke situation.

The location below the earth's surface where the earthquake starts is called the focus. Energy from an earthquake starts deep in the earth and moves up from the focus directly to the central point on the surface.

When a strong earthquake occurs you should follow these rules: stay calm, leave the area immediately, and head from the hills and up a steep hill.

I enjoyed getting to know more about earthquakes and what they did.

Maori Questions

I completed a task called Maori questions.

This task is about creating your own question and answers. When you are creating your questions always start with: Kei hea te ...? Then your answer would be: Kei ... i te ...

For example: Kei hea te patara? Kei matou i te pouaka. Patara means water bottle and pouaka means box.

On my slide you will see the photos, questions and answers and there will be arrows pointing at the objects and telling you what that object is in english.

I enjoyed this task because I got to make my own questions and answers to show what they mean.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed Basic facts boxes subtraction up to 10. Basic facts boxes is a can do activity where you have to answer all of the questions quickly in a short amount of time.

For my basic facts boxes results I answered all of my answers correct and my time was ... minutes and ... seconds.

Next time I will do basic facts boxes up to 20 subtraction.

SSR Selfie

I completed a task called SSR selfie. This task is a can do task where you have to state three facts or a paragraph about the story or book.

I read a book about how the sea works and what stuff are in the sea.

There are five main causes of pollution to sea: Nuclear waste, Rubbish and heavy metals from industry, like lead and mercury.

Lots of plastic are always in the water which kills the sea animals who live in the sea and can damage the world.

I enjoyed doing this task because I learnt about what is in the sea and what happens.
