Reciprocal Reading

We did reciprocal reading on a PDF called what we ate.

The six roles are leader, predictor, clarifier, questioner and summariser. The PDF is about what soldiers ate during the war. They ate: bully beef, jam, canned fruit and vegetables, lack of vitamin c, hard biscuits and water.

The most helpful role was the clarifier role because they identified tricky and unknown words that we don't understand through out the text.

Next we read another PDF called what we lost. This text is talking about where soldiers fought and how many people served, were wounded, killed and injured.

They fought in Gallipoli, the Somme, Messines, Passchendaele and Bapaume.

The most helpful role in this text was the questioner role because they were asking questions about where the battle took place and how many were killed.

3 Similiar simple machines

Did you know that simple machines were used a long time ago to make work easier? These three machines are similiar by moving things using something round or a wheel. They are: wheel and axle, pulley and screw.

Hook

We watched a video about how to write a hook.

A hook is trying to get the readers attention with a suprising fact to hook them. 

Did you know the largest chocolate bar weighed 5,792.50 kg's. Chocolate is made out of cocoa beans. You have to roast the cocoa beans and melting it in the chocolate liquor. Then blending it with milk and sugar. 

Did you know thst fireworks were orignated around 2000 years ago. It consist of powder, a fuse and flash paper. When all three mixtures work together the firework will make a loud bang.

Did you know that butterflys can taste with their feet. A life cycle of a butterlfy has 4 steps. There are eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis and butterfly. The life cycle of a butterfly takes 28 to 32 days. 

Next time I need to start writing a explanation instead of a information report.

Balancing

I did a hockey stick activity. First I had to balance on one leg and try keep the hockey stick from touching the ground. My partner had to roll the ball so I can hit the ball back and fourth.

I found this challenging because I always use the stick to balance.

I did a frisbee activity. First I had to pass the frisbee sideways and balance on one leg. My partner and I tried both legs to see which is stronger. 

I found this activity easy because I mostly caught and it was hard because I was always making big movements.

I did a basketball activity. I had to bounce the ball to my partner. I could either do a dribble across my body with two hands or bounce with just one hand while balancing.

I found this hard because my right foot was always hoping around and wiggling.

I did a netball activity. Me and my partner had to pass the ball to each otheer back and fourth on one leg. We wanted to try passing the ball sideways to make it challenging.

I found this task easy because I could catch the ball with one hand.

I did a rugby activity. Me and my partner passed the ball sideways like a frisbee on one leg. My partner and I kept falling off our tipping point.

I found this task challenging because I kept dropping the ball.

Ktichen Items

We had to find 10 objects that belong in the kitchen.

First we we practised up and down phrases in Maori. Up means runga and down means raro. One of the phrases were for up: kei runga i te... . For down it was: kei raro i te... .

Next we had to create a poster and put on the pictures. Next we had to label the pictures in te reo Maori. For example: Chair means nohoanga in te reo.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt about kitchen words in te reo Maori

Calendars

Calendars show us the day, week or month.

There are 12 months in the year, they are: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

There are number patterrns on a calendar by looking for four connecting days for example 20, 60, and 100.

Knowing before and after number sequence and 7 timestables helps us reading a calendar.

The three similiar simple machines

These three simple machines are similiar due to what they do. They are the wedge, inclined plane, and the lever.
